Staff Profiles

Ruendree Govinder, Director

I am responsible for web development, design, and information management consulting.

While studying towards a BSc (Information Systems) and working with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, I became committed to working with non-profits in South Africa. I am particularly interested in digital archiving and in helping non-profits use technology to improve communication and dissemination of their work.

Over the past five years I have worked with over twenty organisations, predominantly non-profits, based in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Switzerland and the United States.

As a result of these experiences, I have acquired significant practical knowledge in the design and use of websites, databases and digital archives, and specifically, how NGOs can use technology to work more efficiently and economically.

James Sleight, Web content and Communications Manager

I organize and edit content for new websites, help maintain existing ones, and train clients how to use the Joomla Content Management System.

While pursuing graduate degrees in History at Michigan State University, I became involved with H-Net: Humanities and Social Sciences Online, an international organization of some 100,000 scholars and educators. I served as the managing editor for H-Net Reviews and as H-Net Associate Director. H-Net was a pioneer in online scholarly publishing and professional networking, and taught many professionals in the Humanities and Social Sciences to regard the Internet as an indispensable tool of their trade.

As a career educator, I’ve taught at the high school and university levels, and organized teacher training programs.

I currently work as a researcher and internet consultant for South Africa History Online.

Carina Pillay, Administrator

During my 11 years experience in the telecommunications industry I have been exposed to numerous aspects of the business. Most notably, I took a keen interest in IT, specifically office support software. Being a quick study in these various software platforms, I was responsible for training my staff.

At Interiority I liaise with clients, update their Joomla! websites, and perform many of the day to day administrative tasks.

I also play key roles in the business and marketing aspects of Interiority.

Gadija Salie, Freelance Database Developer

I am a mid-career professional with more than ten years experience in the Information and Technology Sector, honed within the niche area of database administration. A key professional advantage arises from my in depth knowledge of two of the most popular relational database management systems – Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. The transition from one system to another increased my technical skills, developed broader insights into the key systems common to such systems.

After completing my National Diploma in Information technology at Peninsula Technikon (Cape University of Technology), I spent five years at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a Database Administrator with the key performance area of administration and maintenance of its Oracle database. From there I moved to the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business where I spent six years working on the administration and maintenance of the Microsoft SQL Server and Access databases. These databases drive some 20 key web applications including the school’s crucial online learning platform.

I have very recently moved to the Black Sash where I am learning Lotus Notes and investigating the possibility of migrating to a relational database with the aim to moving to an online web-based application.
